Dental crowns ensure that weakened or broken teeth are reinforced and restored so that further damage to your smile is prevented. The main goal of a crown is to provide support to weakened or broken teeth. Crowns, also referred to as caps, are placed over worn or damaged teeth, or to provide cosmetic benefit by restoring a discolored tooth to its former color.
There are three types of crown services that we offer at Wynnewood Family Dental:
Because precious metals (such as gold alloys) are incredibly durable and are non-reactive, they are a preferred material. They offer outstanding durability and longevity. These crowns rarely chip or break and don’t wear down easily and require minimal tooth removal to be applied. Gold crowns are very durable and can last for decades. However, since they do not look like natural tooth enamel, we typically reserve them for the teeth in the back of your mouth (molars)
We employ a technique that combines the durability of an all-metal crown with the cosmetic benefits of an all porcelain crown called “Porcelain Fused to Metal (PFM)” to provide you an affordable option for restoring visible teeth needing crowns. The entire crown has a metal layer underlying and porcelain on top of it. The metal is thin, strong, and perfectly fits teeth. It’s a combination of different types of alloys which are designed so that they bond very well with the porcelain.
All porcelain crowns provide our patients with the most natural look – they are generally indistinguishable from natural teeth. CEREC® Also known as same-day crowns have a lot of advantages over traditional ones. Not only do they save you time and convenience, but they are made out of porcelain which makes the final product stronger. CEREC® crowns are natural-looking and will give you the smile you’ve always wanted.
Traditional ones take multiple visits to complete the crown placement procedure. Patients will receive temporary crowns while the permanents are being prepared.
The days of waiting are over! Your crown procedure can be reduced to a single visit to the dental chair when you choose CEREC® Same-Day appointment all porcelain.
