Dental crowns are an essential part of modern dental care. They restore teeth damaged by decay, trauma, or wear and tear. Crowns are made from various materials, including porcelain, metal, and composite materials.
Crowns are a great way to restore teeth that can’t be repaired using other methods. For example, they can be used to cover a tooth that has been cracked or chipped or to replace a large filling that the remaining tooth structure cannot support. Crowns are also used to protect weak or fragile teeth or to cover a dental implant. Crowns, also referred to as caps, are placed over worn or damaged teeth or to provide cosmetic benefits by restoring a discolored tooth to its former color
There are two types of crown services that we offer at Wynnewood Family Dental:
Gold crowns have been used by dentists for centuries and are still a popular choice among patients today due to their affordability, durability, and aesthetic appeal.
Because precious metals (such as gold alloys) are incredibly durable and non-reactive, they are a preferred material. They offer outstanding durability and longevity. These crowns rarely chip or break and don’t wear down easily, and require minimal tooth removal to be applied. Gold crowns are very durable and can last for decades. However, since they do not look like natural tooth enamel, we typically reserve them for the teeth in the back of your mouth (molars). Gold crowns are also nonallergenic, which makes them a safe choice for patients with allergies or sensitive teeth. Gold crowns are also easy to clean and maintain, as they do not accumulate bacteria or plaque like other crowns.
High Noble Metal and Porcelain Crowns are two dental crowns used to restore damaged, decayed, or missing teeth. High Noble Metal crowns are composed of a metal alloy containing gold, platinum, or palladium as the primary components. This type of crown is an excellent choice for back teeth, as they are both strong and durable while providing a natural-looking appearance. Porcelain crowns are composed of ceramic material, often porcelain-fused-to-metal. They are often used for front teeth, giving them a very natural-looking appearance.
We employ a technique that combines the durability of an all-metal crown with the cosmetic benefits of an all-porcelain crown called “Porcelain Fused to Metal (PFM)” to provide you with an affordable option for restoring visible teeth needing crowns.
It is essential to discuss with Dr. Ledbetter which type of crown is best suited for your individual needs. Depending on the tooth’s location, the amount of available space, and the desired aesthetic outcome, Dr. Ledbetter can advise you on which type of crown is the best option.
Dr. Ledbetter has been offering this revolutionary technique for years. We aim to offer services that provide the utmost convenience for our patients! As part of our personalized care for you as our patient, we strive to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible when we serve your dental needs.
The dental crown process begins with an initial consultation with Dr. Ledbetter. During this consultation, he will assess your dental health and discuss the best possible treatment plan for your needs. After the initial consultation, Dr. Ledbetter will take an impression of your teeth to create a precise and customized dental crown. He will then prepare your teeth for the crown by filing down any necessary areas to ensure a perfect fit.
Once the crown is ready, Dr. Ledbetter will securely attach it to your teeth with an adhesive. He may also need to shape the crown to ensure it fits perfectly in your mouth. Dr. Ledbetter will then apply a temporary crown while the permanent one is being made. When the permanent crown is ready, he will remove the temporary version and securely attach the new one.
The entire process can take up to two visits, depending on the customization of your crown. Dr. Ledbetter will help you understand the entire process before beginning so you know exactly what to expect. With his expertise and personalized care, you can rest assured that your dental crown will be placed safely and correctly.
At Wynnewood Family Dental, Dr. Ledbetter and his team are committed to providing patients with the highest quality of care. We strive to ensure that our patients leave our office feeling confident in their smiles. If you need a dental crown, schedule an appointment with Dr. Ledbetter today.
